Tile & Grout Cleaning

Minimal prep is needed on your part! We ask that you remove any small items or breakables from the areas being cleaned (for example, floor mats, trash cans, or bathroom toiletries on tiled surfaces). Doing a light sweep or vacuum of the floor to remove loose debris is helpful but not required – our team will handle any necessary pre-cleaning. It’s also a good idea to keep pets and children clear of the area on the day of service for safety. Other than that, simply clear the space as best as you can and we’ll take care of the rest with our equipment.

For most homes, we recommend a professional tile & grout cleaning about once every 12 to 18 months. High-traffic areas (like busy kitchen floors or frequently used showers) might benefit from yearly cleanings, whereas lower-traffic areas can go a bit longer (up to two years). Regular professional cleaning not only keeps your tile looking its best, but also extends the life of your grout by removing abrasive dirt and preventing mold buildup. In between services, routine mopping and prompt wiping of spills will help maintain the cleanliness of your tile surfaces.

Grout sealing is optional but highly recommended after a deep cleaning. Standard grout is porous and can easily absorb spills and stains once the original sealant wears off. By applying a fresh clear grout sealant, you create a protective barrier that keeps dirt and liquids on the surface, giving you more time to clean up spills before they soak in. This helps preserve that just-cleaned look for much longer. HomeBlu does offer grout sealing as an add-on service – our technician can apply a professional-grade sealant to your grout lines after cleaning. We generally suggest sealing if your grout has never been sealed or if it’s a high-traffic, moisture-prone area like a kitchen or bathroom. The sealant goes on clear and won’t change the appearance of your floor (aside from a slight enhancement of the grout color), and it can last up to 1-2 years with proper care.

The duration can vary based on the size of the area and level of soil, but most tile & grout cleaning appointments are completed in about 1 to 2 hours for an average kitchen or several rooms of tile. Larger spaces or heavy soil may take longer (our team will provide a time estimate once we know your square footage and condition). After cleaning, the tile and grout are left just slightly damp to the touch – thanks to our extraction process, most of the moisture is vacuumed away during service. Grout typically dries within a few hours, and you can walk on the floor immediately with clean indoor shoes or socks. If you opted for sealing, avoid aggressive scrubbing or getting the floor very wet for the first 24 hours to allow the sealant to fully cure.
